A film blending science, humor, and suspense, Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord, has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Released in theaters on March 20th, this movie masterpiece is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Andy Weir (Contributors). Starring Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, the movie follows a molecular biologist who goes from a middle school science teacher to an unlikely astronaut in pursuit of saving Earth.
Honestly, when going into this movie, I personally didn’t expect anything to exceed my standards. I’ve seen many space movies, some good, some alright. But never have I seen one have such a perfect blend of humor, science, suspense, and even heartfelt moments. This movie never failed to make me laugh, but also kept me on my toes throughout the whole film. I don’t think there could have been a better actor to play Ryland Grace than Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling took his own personal spin on it, truly delivering the humor and charisma that made the movie. I haven’t had the opportunity to read the book, so I’m not sure how much it relates, but from what I’ve heard, the book still has a great deal of humor and even takes a deeper dive into the science elements.
Overall, I will have to give this movie a 9/10. The only factor I would have liked to include was a more in-depth explanation of the science parts. If you haven’t yet seen this movie, please take the time to go and watch it; you won’t regret it.
