Who would know snapping a piece of wood in half and making a wish would lead your crush to obsess over you to the point she murders all your friends?
The movie Obsession is an R-rated film released on May 15th, 2026, directed by Curry Barker. The movie is based on a classic horror movie called “Be Careful What You Wish For,” specifically taking inspiration from The Monkey’s Paw and a specific episode of The Simpsons.
Curry Barker came up with the story concept while watching an episode of The Simpsons where Homer interacts with a monkey’s paw that grants horrible wishes. This inspired him to make the “One Wish Willow” included in the movie.
The “One Wish Willow” is a piece of wood in a box that you snap in half while making a wish, and it is supposed to come true. In the movie Obsession, “Bear”, one of the main characters, wishes his crush, Nikki, to only love him. This one wish Bear makes quickly spirals into an obsessive and manipulative nightmare.
