Tumwater high school is more than just a school, it´s where we spend four years of our life in a rich, social community where we learn from one another, grow, and create memories. As a student body, taking better care of our school reflects our respect for one another and for the opportunities we’ve been given. Simple actions like picking up trash, keeping classrooms clean, and treating school property with care can make a big difference. When we take pride in our environment it creates a more positive atmosphere where everybody can be motivated to do their best and put their best foot forward for their education.
Taking responsibility for our school also shows maturity and unity as students. When we work together to maintain a clean and respectful space, we set a standard for future students and show appreciation for the staff who work hard to support us every day small efforts add up and by being more mindful of our actions we can help create a school environment that we are all proud to be a part of.
The purpose of this article is to show you as the reader that your everyday small actions total out to a big deal.
Around THS gross messes are being made, garbage is being dropped on floors and counters out of sheer laziness from students.
One example of this is from the girls bathroom in the commons.
Not only is it super unhygienic to have food in our bathrooms, But this student chose not only to eat in a restroom but to leave their half eaten breakfast on the counter 2 feet away from the garbage can.
This action only shows that whoever did this was simply to lazy to throw away what was left of their breakfast or just didn’t care.
Not doing an easy action to help care for our own resources that we all use is disrespectful to those who do take care of them, clean them, and others who would like to use them.
These actions often result in our bathrooms being closed or shut down for maintenance. Making everyone face the repercussions for a few people’s actions.
Another pretty gross example of this is the makeup smear wall next to a mirror in the girls locker room.
I mean come on, you can’t walk over and grab a paper towel or ask someone to hand you one. That’s plain silly and lazy. We are literally vandalizing a wall because you want to wipe your make up covered fingers on it.
Sure, makes sense, after all the paper towel dispenser is… what? Five steps away. Obviously way too far.
This make up wall is the same kinda issue as leaving garbage and food all over our spaces. It’s frustrating, for your peers and the people who have to clean up after your literal “messy decisions”.
So please, next time you’re in one of these situations do the right thing. Clean up after yourself, take a few extra steps for a towel, and throw your garbage away. It might be hard for some but your peers and janitorial staff will thank you.
