Sophomore year has just ended. Hopefully, for you, it was successful. But it’s time to move on to the next chapter: junior year. Common rumors say junior year is the hardest, the worst, and the most challenging. Whether it is or is not depends on you, and your mindset.
Here are a few tips to make your 11th grade experience top-tier!
-
- Don’t sweat the SATs. Everyone, everywhere makes them out to be the scariest moment of your life. With the right preparation, they’re not. Take the PSAT. Buy a workbook online specifically for the SAT, and go through all of it- trust me, it does more than you think. There are so many scheduled SAT opportunities, so you don’t need to stress. If you get a bad score on one, take the next.
- Prep for the future. Wherever you’re going- college, trade school, the military, a gap year- you need to be ready. Before you know it, you’ll be a senior, and then you’ll graduate. Do research, and really find out what you like to do. Junior year is truly a year of exploration. Take this year and explore yourself!
- Get those volunteer hours! If you’ve struggled finding outlets for community service, it’s time to lock in. Like with your future, you need to do some research. It’s smartest to get all of this out of the way before you’re a senior and overwhelmed with senior-related activities.
- Prioritize attendance. It’s easy to give up and skip a day. But be careful: that day turns to two, and then three- and then it’s been a week. No matter how exhausted you are, don’t quit. Keep coming back, even when it’s hard or seems useless. Every day matters.
- Protect your mental health. Despite all of this busyness- put your mental well-being first. If you’re feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, or tired. Take a break. Don’t let your pride come before your welfare. Find people who are willing to listen. If you’ve surrounded yourself by people who don’t, leave. Yes, junior year is a lot, but you can do it.
