Traditionally, birthstones are used to bring good luck and prosperity, and beyond that, fashion and decor inspiration. However, there are also birth flowers, colors, and animals!
In the last article, we explored each month’s jewel and blossom. Click here to read that!
This article will explain the colors and animals associated with the months, and perhaps they will inspire you in either seasonal decor or outfit planning. (Or both!)
January- The color of January is caramel. The golden-orange hue of caramel is rich and warm, when often January’s weather is not. Caramel is a determined and thoughtful shade, as are your New Years’ Resolutions. (By the way, how are those going for you?)
January’s animal is the wolf. Observant and soulful, those born in January like to ride solo and aren’t afraid to be different.
February- Lilac is February’s color. Lilac is a soft, polite shade of purple, often used to represent peace. Through gray winter flurries or stress-laden midterms, lilac can provide a pop of calming balance. This color also ties to the amethyst associated with February!
Owls are known as the animals of February. Owls are wise and intuitive, just like those folks born in February. If you have a midwinter birthday, you’re probably imaginative and make (mostly) wise choices.
March- March’s birth month color is aqua, soothing and lush. Aqua brings to mind the ocean and welcomes the spring season with exuberance. New beginnings and 2010s 12-year-old girls’ rooms are what we associate with this color.
Those born in March are representative of the dolphin- lighthearted and fun! Dolphins are peppy and long for true connection.
April- Fiery and warm, cayenne is the birth color of April. Cayenne is energetic, tangy, and bold, just like your situationship isn’t. Spice up your life this spring and try something new!
Falcons, animals of April, take to the sky and dream big. There isn’t anything an Aprilite can’t do, due to their determination and (sometimes) stubbornness.
May- Like the rich, vibrant buds on the newly-blossomed trees, the color of May is lime. This hue brings prosperity and healing. May is your garden’s annual high; let it be your high as well. Adding squirts of this bright, joyful shade can freshen up your year!
The deer is the perfect animal for May! At their core, those born in May are gentle, kind, and graceful. They are highly attuned to the emotions of those around them, and are great friends.
June- Aspen gold is June’s color. Finally, summer has slid in, tinged with bucket lists and salty beach trips. This spectacular pigment scientifically stimulates your brain, so wear and incorporate yellows and golds into your two months of freedom to increase communication and intellect.
Multicolored, persistent, and dainty, the butterfly is June’s animal. Butterflies come in every shade and pattern you can imagine, and more, so it’s only right that those born in June are creative and bubbly.
July- The color of July is blush, poppy and pink and empathetic. It’s a nurturing shade, infused with roses and popsicles and hints of sweet summer berries.
July-born individuals are deep, thoughtful, and emotionally intelligent, just like whales. Whales are peaceful creatures, certain and soulful in an ever-changing world.
August- By August, the sun’s rays have beaten all of us. (Come on. I know you’re sunburned.) Luckily, exuberant tangerine rejuvenates us and radiates with strength and charisma. This bright orange-y color will inspire you to finish that summer book project you never did, and make you feel like a total rockstar!
Those born in August are tied to the lion. If this is your birthday month, you’re bold and you stand out. They are also fiercely loyal and do whatever it takes to protect those they love.
September- September’s birth month color is azul, deep and beautiful like the Pacific Ocean. While summer has flitted away, discernment, efficiency, and organization have sauntered in with the beginnings of a new school year. Azul is the perfect color to not only stand out in a crowd, but to feel special too.
The animal of September is a raven, sometimes mysterious to outsiders and wise. They ask deeper questions, and seek knowledge in every crevice of the world.
October- Indigo is the color of October. As Daylight Savings approaches and days darken, this luxurious, refined shade of purple-blue provides an almost-spooky elegance to your autumn. Indigo is introspective, and tranquil before the holiday season begins!
As inspired by Halloween, the black cat is the animal of October. They’re enigmatic, sensitive, and hold tight to their boundaries. Some might even describe them as magical.
November- Scarlet: passionate and strong, scarlet is associated with the end of the harvest season. Deep red apples; dark, full grapes; vibrant nectarines- this hue symbolizes prosperity and smooth sophistication.
Scorpions seem snappy to outsiders but they’re really just blunt. November-borns wear their hearts on their sleeves. This works out for them half the time- they’re truthful and real with their loved ones- but often lack the intelligence to simply read the room.
December- Lastly, the color of December is forest green. This green shade reflects the luscious holly plants and thick wreaths we use to decorate during Christmas or Hanukkah, evoking fir-scented nostalgia. As the year draws to a close, evergreen vitality has persisted through the cold, unlike your Algebra grade.
Majestic and grounding, the December animal is the snow leopard. Snow leopards are captivating but private; mysterious yet powerful. And worst (sorry, most) of all, they know more about you than you know yourself.
