Kicking off the award season in glamorous fashion, the 83rd Annual Golden Globes aired this Sunday, the 11th, bringing the film industry together over the years to recognize acting, directing, and writing across all genres. This year’s Golden Globes was hosted by Nikki Glazer, marking her second year in the role after being the first solo woman to host the Golden Globes (Contributors). This event is much more than an award show, but it can shape all careers in the film industry. With that in mind, here are this year’s winners and nominees.
Best Motion Picture – Drama

This year’s nominees for the Motion Picture were “Frankenstein”, ”It Was Just an Accident, “Sentimental Value”, “Sinners”, “The Secret Agent”, and “Hamnet”. Among all these engaging movies, the award ultimately went to historical fiction Hamnet. This award-winning movie focused on the family of Shakespeare, with hints of Literary Fiction and Domestic tragedy. Directed by Chloe Zhao and co-written by Maggie O’Farrell, writer of the 2020 novel “Hamnet”. (Wikimedia).
Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
This year’s nominees for the Best Motion Picture were “Blue Moon”,” Bugonia”,” Marty Supreme”, “No Other Choice ”, “One Battle After Another”, and “Nouvelle Vague”. While all these guilty movies shot up on billboards, the award went to “One Battle After Another”. This award-winning movie was loosely based on and inspired by the 1990 novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. This film follows an ex-revolutionary who is reverting back to his former combative lifestyle when he and his daughter are pursued by a military officer (One).
Best Motion Picture – Animated

This year’s nominees for best animation were “Arco”,” Demonslayer”, ”Elio”, ”Kpop Demon Hunters”, Little Amelie”, and “Zootopia 2”. Among these captivating animations, the award ultimately went to Kpop Demon hunter created by South Korean-Canadian director Maggie Kang Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, and released by Netflix in June (Kpop). The film follows a K-pop girl group, who lead double lives as demon hunters; they face off against demons in disguise as themself as bands.
Golden Globes Red Carpet
The Golden Globes red carpet was filled with eye catching fashion as celebrities arrived in standout designer looks that quickly set the tone for the night includingng Teyana Taylor, who wore a sculptural custom Schiaparelli gown that quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about looks (Hypebeast). Selena Gomez embraced classic glamour in a feather-trimmed Chanel dress, drawing praise for its old-Hollywood elegance (Harper’s Bazaar). On the menswear side, Timothée Chalame opted for a bold custom Chrome Hearts look that blended rock and roll edge.
