Thanksgiving is now over which means Christmas decorations are coming up. Lights, inflatable Santas, but most importantly, the tree. Do you choose to use a convenient and reusable plastic tree, or visit your local tree farm and take the more traditional approach?
Both choices have pros and cons. Real trees are environmentally friendly and their scent is incredible. Plus, when you don’t need it anymore you can just throw them out because they are biodegradable and break down easily. This is perfect for people who do not have the space to put away a tree.
Although natural trees have their perks, they have their downsides as well. Trees drop needles, which creates a lot of mess. Pets can end up eating them, which could be bad for their digestive system. Also, some people may be allergic to the species of tree. This can be annoying and uncomfortable with people who have allergies.
Just like natural trees, artificial trees have both pros and cons. Fake trees are easily reusable to put up, take down, and store. Unlike real trees, artificial ones don’t cause messes. They are low

maintenance, so they are perfect for those who don’t want to deal with sweeping, watering, or trimming their tree.
Flaws of having a fake tree include: looking too perfect to the point where its individuality. Fake trees also require long-time storage and are prone to wear and tear. This might be a struggle for people who do not have any space available. Artificial trees, as mentioned before, are not biodegradable and bad for the environment (“Real vs Artificial Christmas Trees”).
Whichever tree you choose is up to you. Celebrate the holidays however you like. Whether it’s the more traditional way, or the more convenient way, Christmas trees are essential in order to really get into the Christmas spirit.
I interviewed students and staff at THS on if they would rather put up a fake tree or a real one. Here are the results of the poll:
