After being rejected by the other monkeys at the zoo, Punch was accepted by a female monkey from the group named Momo; she was the one who gave him the hug Punch had so deeply longed for.

Momo often looks after Punch, acting as a companion who guides and cares for him; she has become his protector. Thanks to the fact that he now feels more secure, he has interacted with more of the zoo’s monkeys. Since Punch began feeling loved and accepted by the others, it has been observed that he no longer relies as heavily on the stuffed toy the keepers had given him; instead, he now spends more time with Momo and other monkeys in the group.

After receiving support from Momo—and gaining the acceptance of the other monkeys—Punch shed his shyness. Now, the little seven-month-old monkey has garnered even more affection than many of us imagined he would so quickly—for little Punch now has a girlfriend!

The female monkey’s name is Aiko; both are seven months old. Their caretakers have captured footage of them playing together, and Punch appears very happy whenever he is near her.
Just as people supported him when he had no one, they now support him more than ever as he navigates this new chapter in his life—offering their support to both him and his new companion.
Punch is teaching us that just when you think you are completely alone, someone will come along to help ensure you never feel lonely again.
