Now that spooky season is around the corner, it is the ripest time to start carving pumpkins if you haven’t already! Carving pumpkins is an expressive and creative way to showcase your spirit, whether it’s scary or even cute. Carving pumpkins emerged in the late 1800s after Scottish and Irish immigrants migrated to America, bringing their traditions of carving turnips that later evolved to pumpkins, as they were more abundant and easier to carve (Hardin). These traditions were not only for fun, but they were also believed to ward off spirits on Halloween, which originated from the Celtic festival of Samhain in Ireland and Scotland (HISTORY). Focusing on today’s world, here are some creative ideas for your pumpkin carvings this year!
