How are the new freshmen faring this school year? It’s a pretty big change from being in middle school to high school, from different classmates to a bigger campus to having all new different teachers. Middle school is 100% different from our high school or any for that matter.
The only examples of high school growing up is High School Musical (Or any high school movie) or our parents. That is not exactly much to go on, but these freshmen accurately guessed what their high school experience would be like!
Some questions I asked them go along the lines of “How was your first week?’’ “What were you nervous about?” and “Is it what you expected it was?”
In Peyton Hunter’s first week, she expected there to be a bit more drama and for it to be more hectic, but was surprised by it not being like that.
Also, she has had a more positive outlook in high school so far.
It’s not as bad as some people said it would be! The only part Peyton struggled with was how confusing the campus was because it’s so big.
Ryan Humphries thinks it’s so far a pretty typical experience, besides also getting lost all around campus. Her classes are almost all what she expected except for math.
She said, “it’s a big change going from middle school math to Integrated 1.”
Jean Petty says, “it’s the typical experience.” High school is basically the experience Jean thought she would have.
She’s also on the Tumwater volleyball team and is interested in joining the clubs offered here. The biggest change for her personally was the size of THS.
Jean went from having a class of 12 to a class of 300! It’s a very different experience overall.
Overall, freshmen feel their first week has been better than they expected! (Besides being confused by our campus layout.) From having friends in their classes to having loads of different clubs offered, it’s been a good experience for the class of 2029.
