We all enjoy Spirit Week; it gives us a break from the stress of school, sports, and work. Instead of worrying about deadlines, we get to think about how we’ll show our school spirit each day. Whether it’s dressing up for a fun theme, cheering at the homecoming game, or participating in homecoming, Spirit Week brings our school community together uniquely and excitingly. Curious to hear what others thought, I asked students around the school what they would add, change, or take away from Spirit Week to make it even better.
What Would THS Teachers Change?
Jamar Tucker, the campus safety officer at THS, shared a creative and active idea for enhancing Spirit Week. He suggested introducing a Roller Skate Day, where students could take a school-wide trip to Skateland. The event would give everyone a chance to have fun, be active, and connect outside the usual classroom environment.

Cramer Sande, a social studies teacher at THS, said he would like to see a day added to Spirit Week where students dress up as characters from Disney, Marvel, or even DC. This theme would give students a fun way to show off their creativity and love for popular franchises.

Mrs. Cami, the THS librarian, shared that she would love to see a Flannel Day added to Spirit Week. She mentioned it would be a cozy and easy theme to participate in and joked that she already has plenty of flannel in her closet.

Zach Suderman, the principal of THS, said he would add more sunshine to the weather and a few more Mariners victories to help lift spirits during Spirit Week. His response reminded us that sometimes the best way to boost our mood and school spirit, outside of dress-up themes, is simply by enjoying the weather and celebrating the little things.
What about Students?
Deven Reams, a senior, wanted to keep it original. He said that he would like to bring back a ‘backpack day’ but not anything else. He expressed how he thought the last ones were fun.

Cole Nellson, a senior, thought of an interesting and original idea to add to spirit week. Instead of anything but a backpack, anything but a car. You must come to school in any way that doesn’t involve cars, whether that’s walking or taking the bus.

Dani Fergusen, a sophomore, thought long and hard about what she might add or change to spirit week. She finally decided that having a favorite color day would be fun rather than having to wear a certain color for your grade. She would wear pink for this spirit day.

Mathew Mettler, a sophomore, expressed how he felt about some ideas of spirit week that he thought were unnecessary. He wanted to eliminate the generational themes and bring back anything but a backpack day.

From dressing up as Marvel characters to rolling around in skates, participating in school spirit gives everyone a chance to express their appreciation for their community! What would you change about Spirit Week?
