Are you curious what your teacher’s dream job was when they were a kid? Look no further, because your teachers here at THS were asked that very question. As kids, how they pictured their futures and their dreams says a lot about their personalities and interests, even if their dreams changed over time. Discovering these childhood dreams reminds us that teachers were once kids like us, with big imaginations that helped shape who they are and what they do today.
Mr. Price said, “I wanted to work at an Olympic training facility.” He loved sports and science, and he wanted to do both. He said that his wife got him into teaching. Mr. Price said that his wife knew he enjoyed science and working with kids.
Mr. Tucker responded with, “The NBA, of course.” He said he grew up loving the game of basketball, and it was his dream.
Mr. Oakes wanted to be a veterinarian or an author. He said he liked animals and stories. He became a teacher because his wife was also a teacher, and he thought it looked fun.
Mr. Sande said that he wanted to be a video game tester. He was big into games and, as a middle schooler, thought he “could do this the rest of his life”. In high school, he worked with kids when he volunteered. Mr. Sande said that parents were also teachers, and he loves history.
Learning about our teachers’ childhood dreams is a reminder that it’s okay not to have life completely figured out yet. This is the time in our lives when we are deciding what we want to do with our lives, and that can seem jarring. Seeing our teachers and adults around us share that their dreams and career paths changed is reassuring that it’s normal for dreams to grow and change.
