Senior sunrise is a popular high school tradition where senior students gather in the early hours of the morning and watch the sunrise, marking the beginning of their final year and symbolizing a new chapter in their lives.
For Tumwater High School seniors, Senior Sunrise was on September 2nd, the day before the first day of school. Everyone gathered in the THS Stadium, excited to see the oranges and pinks of the sunset.
However, that morning, there was no sunrise, as the weather was too cold and grey for one to appear. What did the seniors think about this? Were the free food trucks enough to make up for the cold and cloudiness?
What Did Students Think?
Kaylin Clark says that she had higher expectations for the event and that “it was subpar…” She went with Nichole Palmer and her cousin Bailey. Her advice for senior year is not to procrastinate and “stick it out.”
Similarly, Atlas Smithling thought it was “lowkey sad” how there was no sun, but thought the red bull stand was “fire.” He went with a group of friends and says his senior year has been awesome so far. He also said you should figure out what you have to do as a senior before you get there.
Megan Peppers said, “It was awful. There was no sunrise, and it was cold.” She is happy that she got to see her friends, including Izzy, Raegan, Maddie, Cassidy, and Abigail. Her advice for senior year is to not fall behind, but also to have fun. Do things with the school. Go to the school dances and do any events you can.
In contrast, Alexa Anderson thought it was amazing and loved seeing everyone. She said it was “nice to see my family…” She went with Vanessa, Hailie Turner, and Caleb Boyle. She says to do it all because it will go by fast.
Van Hoopes also said that it was super fun to see his friends and that the drink truck was cool. He went with Zane McAferty, Ricky Witt, Royce Iverson, and Alex Leske. His advice so far is to “stay on top of other things, and senior year will be easy.”
Looking Ahead
Overall, all of the seniors had different ideas about how Senior Sunrise went, but we can all agree that Senior year is going to be awesome. Remember to stay on task and not procrastinate, and thank you to everyone that I interviewed.
