How Your Room is a Reflection of Your Mind
Do you ever notice that when your room is a mess, so are you? Maybe you feel less organized, and/or your mind feels crowded.
For instance, you just deep cleaned your room, and you feel great. Organized. All you have is just a load of folded laundry to put away, but you don’t feel like doing it right this second. So you just leave it on the ground, and pick little things from it to wear each day. And eventually it turns into a pile, because you pick through the nicely folded one and throw things to the side.
Then that pile starts to grow, and the infection of the mess spreads.
Next it’s your vanity with all your makeup that you might not put away, then it’s your bed, and then eventually, you come home from school and just throw your shoes on the ground because “Oh well, my room is already a mess.”
But then you start to notice that you might not have finished those daily chores you usually always have the motivation to do, you don’t feel as motivated to do your homework,
Not only does the way you decorate your room represent who and how you are, but the actual state of it as well.
Let’s talk about some of the attributes the state of your bedroom affects.
Starting off, your mental clarity is greatly affected by the state of your room, as it can degrade as your room becomes messier. Mental clarity is having a clear and steady mind that provides a peaceful environment to reduce stress.
Next, mental health conditions, like depression or ADHD can lead to a decline in the state of a living space, and in turn, the poor environment can exacerbate feelings of depression and anxiety.
Lastly, self-care. A messy room can be a visual reminder of unfinishes tasks and unorganization all in one space, and it can be overwhelming. This can lead to more unfinished tasks, and more unorganization.
Maintaining a clean room can be very hard, trust me I get it. But knowing that your room is clean when you’re away from it puts you at ease just a little bit. And now that you might be aware of what your messy room can do to you and your feelings, mental health, habits, well-being, and much more, maybe you’ll keep in mind that picking things up every few days can make a huge difference and take some stress off of you!
