Homecoming spirit week is a fun, lighthearted event that takes place the week before the Saturday of the homecoming dance every year. The themes we have this year are PJ Day, Jersey Day, Color Wars, Generations Day, and T-Bird Super Fan. Spirit week helps students to create outfits that get them excited for homecoming night, especially at Tumwater High School.
10th grader Lucca Anderson says, “I feel like people at our school get so creative with their outfits!”
For Monday’s spirit day, pajama day was a hit. Countless students walked around in comfortable clothes, such as sweatpants, pajamas, onesies, and more. PJ Day is a spirit day that many people love, as it allows students to be their most comfortable selves (literally).
Alivia Mignone, a sophomore, says PJ Day is her favorite because she gets to be cozy, and she loves wearing comfy clothes. She also says, “I like staying warm at school”.
A student who chose to stay anonymous says he loves PJ Day because he gets to wear PJs.
On Tuesday, people wore their jerseys from their favorite sports teams, as well as from famous teams like the Seahawks or the Mariners. Some people just wore regular jersey-like shirts.
People love sharing their sports teams, although it can get competitive.
10th grader Payton Greenburg said she witnessed a lot of competition, especially between two students.
Payton explains, “One of the girls walked in and was like, why the heck are you wearing that sports team? I was like, Rawr, cat fight!”
Amber Dillman, another 10th grader, says she noticed some competition between clothing brands.
“Some people wore jerseys from SHEIN, and that put others on edge.”
On Wednesday, it was Color Wars! Freshmen wore yellow, sophomores wore green, juniors wore white, and seniors wore black.
Kaylin Clark, a senior, said she loved seeing lots of people dressed up!
“It was cool seeing the difference in grades and people actually doing it,” Kaylin said.
Color wars also featured a competition at 7:30 PM on the turf, with the seniors in the lead!
On Thursday, people decked out in their Generation wear for Generations Day. Freshmen were babies, sophomores were ele
mentary, juniors were adults, and seniors were senior citizens! This day was my favorite; it was fun seeing people dress up in creative ways.
“My favorite generation was babies; the outfits were so cute,” senior Payten Rees says.
And last but not least, Friday was T-Bird Spirit Wear. People dressed more casually, with seniors wearing their senior t-shirts, people wearing T-Bird hoodies, and more. If you want any t-bird spirit wear, head over to the ASB office!
For our first spirit week, it was a hit. Many people dressed up for each day and showed school spirit. Let’s make the next spirit week just as good, go T-Birds!
