Excitement is in the air as Homecoming quickly approaches! The halls are buzzing with talk of creative proposals, dazzling outfits, and who will ask whom. No matter where you turn, Homecoming is on everyone’s mind. Even if it’s not on your mind yet, this article is going to dive right into homecoming proposals. Let’s begin!

Let’s break it down: what exactly is a homecoming proposal? The internet will tell you it’s when one person asks another to the dance, usually with a big, cute sign. Or if you’re basic, a cute text.
Going beyond the generic definition, what does that look like here at Tumwater High School? To find out, I asked five students—and, surprisingly, every single one gave almost the same answer.
“One person asks someone out to homecoming, with a poster, and maybe some flowers.”
I found it pretty interesting that everyone had the same description. What about the variety—where are the unique proposals, the posters that turn everyone’s eyes to you? While this may appeal to many, others have different takes. For example, one student, Peyton McCafferty, said something that caught my eye. When asked if she believed people liked the signs, she said,
“It depends on the person, and if they’re uncomfortable with attention”.
Which I think is a fair point. Adding on to that, it becomes pretty awkward if whoever you ask says ‘no’. Not only is that embarrassing for you, but it’s embarrassing for whom you’re asking. There is always a risk involved when putting yourself out there.

When interviewed, Jason Choate stated, “People can get quite creative when designing their posters”.
Even our own Ms. Schaake said that “the best ones are creative and adorable”, and I’d have to agree with that statement. Homecoming is a time to make a glittery, beautiful mess and ask your crush out with a cute poster. Or if you’re basic, with a cute text.
Homecoming is always an interesting time, and it was very fun to learn everyone else’s thoughts on one of the best parts of homecoming (in my opinion), homecoming proposals.
