The New Market kids are in a bit of a pickle if you have a second lunch. Every Friday for the fourth period, they can not get here on time! And while some teachers understand this and don’t mark them absent, it still cuts into the students’ learning time. For example, if you have weightlifting, fourth period and second lunch, you’re going to be 10 minutes late to class and miss the first workouts.
RJ Mcalister:
Program: Culinary Arts
The best thing about New Market to RJ is the hands-on learning it provides. They also just like how the layout is apart from fourth period!
But when asked about times I get the response “It really sucks.”
Others can sympathize because this affects so many.
Neil Lott:
Program: Construction trades
His favorite part of New Market is that it’s really fun and you get to learn about specific industries or trades for in the future
I asked Neil how the second lunch affected his schedule and he said…
“It usually means we are a few minutes late to the fourth period, and we have less time to do what we are supposed to do”
He would like to either change the fourth period to later or get out earlier ( good thing they can now get out early starting NOW!)
Grady :
Program: Firefighter and EMS
So far this year Grady has had an amazing experience so far at New Market, his schedule is perfect in his eyes, and easily allows him to be able to get to all his classes without stressing.
He said “ I would not want anything changed about the way my schedule is laid out”
One thing all of the students love is that they have the opportunity to be able to go to New Market, it’s “a very big privilege to be able to go there.” Just recently Mr. Suderman made it so that students can leave New Market at 10:10, allowing them to get to Tumwater High school on time.(fourth period starts at 10:19)
